A Year of Red and White Quilt Challenges

artwork year of red and white quilt challenges_edited-1

For generations, many quilters have loved Red and White Quilts. But they definitely grew in popularity during a special quilt exhibit "Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts", in New York City, which was sponsored by the American Folk Art Museum in March, 2011.  There were 615 red and white quilts on display for a period of 5 days, all from a collection of quilts curated by Elizabeth Warren.

In  May 2011, Barb Vlack hosted an amazing Red and Whilte Quilt Design Challenge for EQ users that was inspired by the red and white quilt exhibit in New York City. There is an inspirational gallery of entries in this challenge at the EQ website.

Also, inspired by Red and White Quilts, SewCalGal is making 2014 "The Year of Red and White Quilt Challenges.  They'll be several different phases (aka challenges) and you may wish to enter one or all of these challenges.  While every phase focuses on red and white quilts, of all sizes, the challenges are all different.  They open the door for those that like to design, those that like to make quilts with their own design or with a purchased or free design, as well as those that enjoy free-motion quilting and more!

Thank you to all of the generous sponsors for this event and congratulations to the 47 lucky winners:

Just a small correction. The Red and White Show in NY was in March of 2011. I had the good fortune to attend this on the opening day with board members from The Vermont Quilt Festival. It was just spectacular.
